VIA and AMD make details known about new chips
As source AMD as VIA these soft details announced about their new chips for embedded applications. While the Taiwanese chip maker details revealed about its Esther-chip core, presented AMD its new Geode-processors. Both chip designs offer compatibility with x86-code and consume but little stream.
The VIA C5J “Esther” -chip becomes by IBM on 0,090-micron manufactured. With the chip addresses VIA on consumers electronics and embedded applications on which x86-code turns, so that the development of the joining software less work asks. According to VIA will Esther on 1 GHz at most 3.5 Watts consume. The design will final speeds until 2 GHz and a front-side bus of 800 MHz manage, maintain the makers.
VIA the new trend follows to stop all sorts of safeties options directly in processors and has Esther foresee of NX-protection and support for heavy encryption. The new positions come was on top the safeties technology of VIA that already in the previous generation chips (Nehemiah) person present.
The Geode of AMD is clear directed presents yet more on the embedded market, already the chip manufacturer with powerful NX-versions chips that have been arranged before for powerbewuste serverapplications. New are the Geode NX 1500@6W and the Geode NX 1750@14W, chips that turns on respective 1.4 and 1 GHz.
The older Geode-chips, intended for mobile applications, get new names. As AMD the Geode GX2 has named now Geode GX 533@1.1W. The new naamgeving must want to make inglance the performances on base of a benchmark (for the @-teken) and it (after the @-teken) clear.
