University works at nanotech-supercomputer
IBM will build together a center with other businesses for supercomputers for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). The center becomes the largest that an university ever has had, and an of the ten largest centers in the world.
The in the American place Troy established RPI is present all one of the largest centers for investigation to nanotechnologie. The new Computational Center for Nanotechnology Innovations will expand the investigation capacity vigorously. The budget for the building amounts to currently 100 million dollars, about 77.5 million Euros.
In the center of the RPI, scientists will try to design transistors and other parts of only single nanometers long. They want also in simulaties examine how different atoms and materials on each other react.
The investigation must go play an important role in the development of processors. Present processors are less than 65 nanometer large. Against 2015, chips of 22 nanometer must made can become. An idea of this scale to give: a nanometer is 0,000000001 meters and contain about 5 atoms.
Next to IBM also chip manufacturer AMD works with at the center in Troy. Both businesses work already together by the building of a lithografiecentrum in Albany. It do not goes for this reason naturally the ancient stone pressure art, but round the of the requirement patrons photographicly put in in beschermlagen on the chips. How verfijnder this can happen, how smaller the chips made can become.
As source Troy as an Albany lie in the American state New York. That is no coincidence. Governor George Pataki has said to want to make its state till one of the leaders on the territory of nanotechnologie, and in this specialized enterprises load advantages and other bonuses offers.
