Samsung and Sony divide 24,000 patents

Elektronicagianten Samsung and Sony have been agreed to divide round 24,000 technology patent. The LCD-fence of Samsung and the Playstation of Sony fall outside the agreement.

Without many publicity at the agreement to give, closed the South-Koreaanse Samsung and the Japanese Sony on 14 December an agreement to divide a large part of their patents. Earlier, in March of this year, shut the pair all an agreement under the name 'S-LCD' together LCD-panels to produce.

The negotiations were started in the largest secret in December 2003. Through the agreement, the two manufacturers can want to make of each other's patents. The agreement has be brought in relation on approximately 24,000 patents, of which there 11,000 by Samsung and 14,000 by Sony.

Only everything is not divided: about single technologin remain the businesses “exclusive dishes” keep. Success numbers as a LCD-fence and remain the exclusive domain of respective Samsung Playstation and Sony.

Also other patents traps outside the agreement. It goes around ondermeer the patents of Sony about HDTV and other products that uses make of a videosignaal (Digital Reality Creation, DRC). Samsung of her side keeps the alone law about patents that relations have on the Digital Natural Image Engine (DNIe) and her technology for home networks (Home Networking Technology).

The agreement counts till end 2008, according to a spokesman of Samsung, but an extension is not excluded.
