Samsung and Sony build together LCDs
The planned cooperation between two of the largest manufacturers of LCD has been concretized. Samsung and Sonys start to produce in South-Korea a joint venture on panels of the seventh generation. Together the pair will invest about two billion dollar in the new business, that the name S-LCD carries.
S-LCD will flatpanels produce that on equal base will become divided at Samsung and Sony. The hoofdmoot of the production will consist of larger sizes that must Server for LCD-televisions. Especially in the Asian market, but also elsewhere in the world, is the question to such tv sets in advance. Samsung and Sony expect that this market in the future even “dramatically will grow”.
The new firm opens officially in April the doors. The most important investments, that new production line Server happen to build, from the summer. That S-LCD is expected fit will start in the second quarter by 2005 effectively with the production.
