Nokias camera telephone large success
In the past quarter became there but gladly 1.2 million pocket computers reships in the direction of Europe, Africa and the middle east (the EMEA-territory). That is more than two turn as many as a year ago and at the same time a record, means market investigation desk Canalys. Striking is the good performance of Nokia, that especially thanks to the 7650 did with built in camera and Symbian OS good affairs
The market of 'mobile devices' grew thanks to Nokia with 55 per cent, say the figures of Canalys. That is considerable, for in the past year pocket computers lay not totally good in the market. The figures must be seen however in the right perspective. The market investigation desk speaks of 'mobile devices' a difference to make between 'real' pocket computers, as Palm-products or pda's on which PocketPC turns, and mixed apparatuses as the Nokia 7650 or Sony Ericsson P800. Their count contain as source real pocket computers as gsm's with pda-functionaliteit.
And that yields a vertekening. Without the Nokia 7650 and consorten, grew the market for pocket computers with 23 per cent. That is not bad, but lots less than the cheering 55 per cent.
This enormous vertekening is complete to thank at Nokia. In the third quarter of 2001 reshipped the Finse commit only 158,000 apparatuses, mainly the 9210 Communicator. In the three months that number ascended ended to 666,000 pda-telephones, or 56 per cent of the total market.
The success of the Nokia-apparatus partly is to be declared through the subsidy administration of opera tower in some countries. “The sale of the 7650 gets a push in the back through the striking promotion of Nokia and of opera tower that men want to entice to mms”, says Canalys-analyst Chris Jones. “About that becomes the apparatus heavy gesubsidieerd it attractive to make for the consumers market.”
On respectful distance of Nokia, Palm, good follows for 15 per cent. That is a good performance of Palm, certainly because the sale figures strongly below pressure stood after Microsoft the PocketPC-platform introduced. Canalys expects that the returns of Palm in the hand worked will become by the introduction of the cheap Zire. Third place is for HP, that with its PocketPC-apparatuses 9 per cent inpikt. Toshiba (PocketPC) and Sony with its PalmOS Cli, take in 4 and 3 per cent of the market.
The coming months will bring among many Palm and Dell new pocket computers on the market, while also on the territory of pda-gsm' s many state to happen. Presumably camera telephones will do it in the coming months yet better in Europe, for many opera towers must introduce the mms-technology yet. Shortly moreover the first apparatus is launched on base of Microsofts SmartPhone-platform, what the competitions tighten up will with Symbian.
