JVC combines Blu-ray with usual dvd-disks
JVC works at the development of a disk that as source Blu-ray as the dvd-standard aankan. The hybrid disk must trust give consumers to choose for Blu-ray.
The Japanese electronics manufacturer JVC presented Friday the prototype of a disk that the present dvd-standard combines with the new Blu-ray technology. The prototype has a raise capacity of 33.5 GB, but a version with 58.5 GB disk space sit now already in the pipe line.
The hybrid disk contain lay three. The top layer has been intended for Blu-ray and has a capacity of 25 GB. The two bottom dvd-lay can 8.5 GB at data raise.
JVC hopes that the disk the consumers will persuade for Blu-ray to choose. Consumers can buy then with an easy heart the hybrid disks: the content of the disk not only am to be looked at with the present dvd-player, but also with a future Blu-ray-player.
Blu-ray and High-Definition dvd (HD dvd) fight currently round the label “successor of the dvd”, but it pleaded has been decided not yet. Blu-Ray may enjoy then source the support more large names from the it-industry, HD dvd has a larger part of Hollywood on its side. The blow counts is comparable to the fight between VHS, Betamax and V2000 round the videostandaard, end the years seventy.
Analysts fear that the dilemma between Blu-ray and HD dvd disadvantageously is for the acceptance of the technology through consumers. “Everybody tries to slide now the own standard to for as the successor of the dvd,” says Michael Gartenberg of Jupiter Communications. “Only meanwhile not clear is which technology authoritative is, will consumers wait for and nothing buy.”
